BUILT ACROSS INDUSTRIES

“Each company presented a different set of challenges, but the fundamentals remained consistent — understanding the customer, building the team, creating systems, managing growth, and turning an idea into an operation capable of standing on its own”. Axe Hinojosa

1 — VALLEY OF THE SUN

Digital Marketing Company

Valley of the Sun was Axe’s entry into business ownership and provided an early foundation in customer acquisition, marketing strategy, sales, and client service.

Operating a digital marketing company required more than simply producing advertising. It meant understanding what brought customers through the door, helping businesses communicate their value, managing client expectations, and connecting marketing activity to measurable business results.

The experience also provided an early look at one of the most important challenges every company faces: growth begins with consistently finding and converting customers.

Working directly with business owners created exposure to companies across different industries and offered a valuable perspective into the problems entrepreneurs encounter every day — from generating revenue and differentiating themselves in competitive markets to managing the gap between having a good product and successfully selling it.

Valley of the Sun helped establish the sales, marketing, and customer-focused foundation that would carry into every business that followed.

2 — CLEAR SKY SOLAR

Solar Company

Clear Sky Solar moved Axe into a very different environment — a competitive, high-ticket, sales-driven industry where growth depended heavily on people, process, follow-up, and execution.

Building the company required developing sales systems, managing lead flow, creating accountability, working with customers through a longer buying decision, and keeping teams focused in an industry where performance could change quickly.

Solar also reinforced an important lesson about growth: increasing sales does not automatically create a stronger company.

As volume grows, weaknesses in communication, staffing, training, processes, and accountability become much easier to see. Sustainable growth requires building the operational structure behind the sales organization at the same time the company is expanding.

That experience strengthened Axe’s understanding of sales leadership, team development, performance management, and the systems required to support a growing organization.

3 — RANGER TATTOO & PIERCING

Multi-Location Service Company

Ranger Tattoo & Piercing became Axe’s most extensive experience in building and scaling a location-based service company.

The company was built from the ground up and expanded from a single operation into multiple locations, requiring the development of systems that could deliver a consistent customer experience while allowing individual locations and teams to function independently.

Scaling Ranger meant solving challenges that do not exist when operating only one location: hiring and developing leadership, managing staffing across locations, standardizing procedures, maintaining quality, controlling expenses, coordinating inventory and purchasing, managing customer flow, and creating accountability throughout the organization.

It also required building a business around skilled professionals while maintaining a larger company culture and operating system. That balance became especially important as the organization grew.

As additional locations opened, Axe’s role increasingly shifted from personally solving every problem to creating the structure that allowed other people to solve those problems.

Ranger became a practical education in what it means to move from owning a business to building an organization.

The experience reinforced one of the principles that now defines Axe’s operating philosophy: a company becomes significantly more valuable when its success is supported by people, systems, processes, and culture rather than dependence on a single owner.

4 — RT TATTOO SUPPLY

Retail & Distribution Company

RT Tattoo Supply expanded Axe’s operating experience into a different side of business: retail, inventory, purchasing, merchandising, distribution, and recurring professional customers.

The company was developed to serve tattoo shops and independent professionals through a physical retail operation carrying the products and supplies they regularly depend on to operate their own businesses.

Unlike a service company, retail introduced an entirely different set of operating challenges. Capital had to be managed through inventory. Purchasing decisions had to balance product availability with cash flow. Vendor relationships, receiving, stocking, merchandising, pricing, point-of-sale systems, and inventory controls all became part of the day-to-day operation.

Because many customers purchased repeatedly for their own businesses, RT Tattoo Supply also demonstrated the value of recurring customer relationships. Success was not based entirely on finding a new customer every day; it was also about becoming a reliable supplier that professionals returned to consistently.

Operating the supply company alongside a multi-location service business provided another perspective as well: one business could create insight into the needs of another market.

RT Tattoo Supply strengthened Axe’s experience in retail operations, inventory management, B2B customer relationships, purchasing, and building systems around physical products rather than services.

DIFFERENT BUSINESSES. SAME FUNDAMENTALS

On the surface, digital marketing, solar, tattoo and piercing services, and professional retail have very little in common.

Operationally, they have much more in common than most people realize.

Every business requires customers. Every growing company eventually needs people beyond its founder. Every team needs accountability. Every operation needs systems. Every dollar of growth creates new decisions around expenses, cash flow, staffing, and capacity.

Each company added another layer to Axe’s understanding of business — marketing taught customer acquisition, solar strengthened sales and performance management, Ranger developed multi-location operations and organizational leadership, and RT Tattoo Supply added retail, inventory, purchasing, and distribution.

Together, those experiences created something more valuable than expertise in any single industry: the ability to look at a business as an operating system and understand how its people, customers, processes, finances, and growth strategy work together.

That is the experience Axe now carries into the next stage of his career: acquiring established businesses and building on the foundation someone else has already created.
